Sylvester Merritt, LCPC, CADC

Good news everyone! I’m a big nerd and also an integrative therapist based in Chicago. I earned both my bachelors in psychology and sociology in 2004, and my masters in Clinical Psychology in 2013 from Murray State University.  I’m currently completing my advanced externship for my PsyD in Clinical Psychology.  My specializations are centered in advancing therapeutic approaches for marginalized, intersectional and marginalized populations.

As a Black queer therapist, the work of helping others was greatly influenced by integrative and intersectional approaches that mirror the values validation and storytelling, as my elders nurtured in me throughout my life. From a narrative and integrative lens, I strive to create an environment of self-exploration that is nurturing and safe. My focus in therapy is providing the opportunity for clients to discover their capability in managing their mental health. I believe collaboration and exploration in the therapeutic space builds autonomy and esteem in managing our mental health. I want you to discover the power of narrating your lived experiences and gain meaning and understanding from them.

I strongly advocate self reflection,  introspection and inner growth. It’s important for me to provide services that not only teach tools and strategies but also help clients acknowledge their power and ability to overcome obstacles life presents through becoming the authors of their life narrative.
